We are proud to announce Simon Williams as the new Managing Director of our leading warehousing and storage facility in Immingham. Having been in post as Operations Director at GWSL for the last three years, Simon is ready to take the helm of our well-established warehousing operation.

Having built a 23-year career in the plastics packaging industry, Simon says “Starting again in a new sector was nerve-racking but it was also exciting to have the opportunity to transfer my skillset to a new team. Having grown my career over a long time, I was ready for a new challenge and I’m proud to have developed the business at GWSL with the support and trust of a great team.”

We are a leading warehousing and storage solution with over 50 years of experience in product handling. Since joining the company, Simon has helped implement strategies and sales & marketing plans to really push GWS to the forefront of the warehousing industry in our area. And all of this has been achieved in a fairly short amount of time, which is no mean feat!

It's been a busy three years since Simon joined GWSL. The company has gone through a complete rebrand and an extensive £2million investment in facilities, including two brand-new warehouse buildings and installing a state-of-the-art fire detection system. Simon has taken on the challenges of a complete change of career to create a new secure and stable future for the business.

A Top Warehousing Team

Owner, David Jobes, will not be stepping away from the business and will still be an ever-present part of the company, Simon tells us. “David and I are a team, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside him as I lead the company with strategies that will shape the future of GWSL.

“Working in the packaging industry gave me the chance to travel the world, setting up new packaging operations, but I was looking for new opportunities. A Sunday interview with David gave me just that and seeds were sown for a new industry, a fresh start and an exciting challenge. With the support of my family, I made my move and started the next step in my career.”

GWS prides itself on having a “passion for your product” and has a wealth of product handling experience within our warehousing and operations team. Simon says he is proud to work with a team that will not accept ‘OK’ and will always work to exceed customers’ expectations.

A Plan for The Future

“We are still in a transitional period of investment in new systems, increased capacity and adapting to the changes in our environment, post-COVID”, Simon states. “We have rebranded our business which is no small undertaking. This meant a brand-new website and fresh marketing strategy to ensure that customers, new and existing, know about all the work we do at GWS.”

The warehousing and transport industry has been hit hard, but GWS is ending the current year with great results. Simon knows that the business cannot afford to be complacent, “It won’t be plain sailing,” he says, “but we will continue to work hard while maintaining a healthy work-life balance for our team. Our team are what underpins everything we do at GWS, so it is important to nurture their talents, which ultimately benefits our clients – and it shows!

“We are midway through a 4-year plan of investment during which we have increased capacity and implemented new systems. We’ll continue to focus on staff development and customer engagement and make sure that Alan, our office Chihuahua, gets his daily treats.”

Providing a Quality Warehouse Provision

Expectations in the warehousing industry are increasing, and so they should. Large retailers expect a high-quality and responsive service. “GWS provides warehousing and distribution that exceeds their expectations”, Simon says, “our company provides our customers with a service they can trust. We are seeing a growth area in packaging storage, with my experience from my previous career I can bring knowledge and add expertise to our offering.

“Contracts continually come to an end, but we are confident that we offer a competitive service and our team genuinely cares. We know that our flexible and scalable warehouse offering is among the best in the region, if not the country.”

GWS has over 240,000 sq ft of storage across our 23-acre site. With internal and external storage options, loading and offloading facilities and a crack team of dependable product handlers, we provide an excellent option for various industries.

“Leading an A-Team of Warehousing Product Handlers”

Taking on the running of a large flexible warehousing facility in the North-East of England is not a small responsibility, but Simon Williams is ready for the challenge. As he transitions from Operations Director to Managing Director Simon plans to lead GWSL into further development and growth.

As the new Managing Director of a 23-acre warehousing site, Simon says, “I can’t thank the team at GWSL enough for all their support. They even trust me on a forklift truck, and that says a lot from the A-Team of warehousing and storage!”.
