Hello again – Alan here.
As the smallest member of the GWS team, you might think my role in keeping our secure warehouse safe is purely symbolic. But I’ll have you know, I take my security duties very seriously. From greeting visitors to keeping a close eye on the yard (and an even closer eye on the biscuit tin), I’m always on patrol.
Of course, I’m not the only one looking out for our customers’ goods. The GWS team has put a lot of thought – and investment – into security. Here’s how we keep everything safe, with a few of my own field notes from the warehouse floor.
First Impressions Matter
Every vehicle and visitor passes through our staffed gatehouse. The team logs details, checks authorisation, and directs people exactly where they need to go. It’s organised, professional, and calm – quite different from my approach, which involves an enthusiastic welcome and a quick check to see whether they’ve brought snacks.
Eyes on the Ground (and in the Sky)
Our CCTV system covers the inside and outside of the site, with cameras tailored to our customers’ requirements. It’s the kind of coverage that makes sure nothing goes unnoticed.
I do my part too, but while my hearing is excellent, I can only be in one place at a time. Whereas the cameras cover everything.

A Strong Perimeter
Our secure warehouse site is surrounded by a robust palisade fence and natural boundaries. It’s there to keep the right things in and the wrong things out.
I once tested it when a squirrel ran past – the fence won.
Backup on Call
In addition to our in-house team, we work with a local security firm for extra patrols. It’s an additional layer of reassurance – like when I decide one lap of the site isn’t enough and go round again, just in case.
Prepared for the Unexpected
If the power goes out, our backup generator keeps the security systems and warehouse management system running without interruption. I’m not a fan of the dark, so extra protection gives us all peace of mind, and no one slips under the radar.
Early Warnings
Our fire detection systems are always on the lookout. They’re so sensitive they can pick up the faintest sign of smoke and alert the team immediately. I admire the efficiency, even if they’re not quite as interested in the smell of toast as I am.
People Make it Work
The best part of our security? The people. Experienced, attentive and committed to doing things properly. They keep your goods safe, the site secure, and the working day running smoothly. I may not have a security qualification, but I like to think I’m part of that culture too.
You’re in Safe Hands – and Paws
A secure warehouse isn’t just about fences, cameras, and systems; it’s about creating an environment where everything is accounted for, protected and handled with care. At GWS, that’s the standard every day. And if you happen to spot me on patrol while you’re here, don’t worry – I’ll only raise the alarm if you look suspicious… or if you’re carrying sausages.
